Nine treatments, each explained before it starts

For each one: what it is, who it's for, how it goes, how long it takes, what it costs and how to look after it. Prices are from-prices; your written plan gives the exact figure before anything begins.

Check-up and X-rays

A full look at your teeth, gums and mouth, with X-rays when we need them.

Who it's for
Everyone. Most adults every 6 to 12 months; we set your interval from what we find.
How it goes
  1. Look: every tooth checked under loupes, and a gum check (the BPE): your mouth in six parts, measured with a probe whose tip is a 0.5 mm ball.
  2. Show: X-rays only if we need them. A set of check-up X-rays is about a few days of natural background radiation.
  3. Decide: we tell you what we found and, if anything needs treatment, give you a written plan with prices.
How long
20 min (45 min if you are new)
From
£55
Afterwards
Nothing to do afterwards. We book your next check-up before you leave, if you like.

Hygiene visit

A clean with Priya: tartar removed, teeth polished, gums checked, and advice that fits your mouth.

Who it's for
Anyone with bleeding gums, tartar build-up, or a gum score from your check-up that needs watching.
How it goes
  1. Priya measures your gums and shows you where plaque collects.
  2. Tartar is removed by hand and with an ultrasonic scaler. Plaque left for about a day starts hardening into tartar, which only a clean removes.
  3. Polish, and fluoride varnish if your teeth need it: it stays on for a few hours.
How long
30 or 45 min
From
£70
Afterwards
Gums can feel tender for a day. Bleeding gums usually settle within two weeks of good brushing: gingivitis is the one stage of gum disease that fully reverses.

White fillings

Decay removed and the tooth rebuilt in tooth-coloured composite resin.

Who it's for
Anyone with a cavity, a chipped edge, or an old filling that has broken down.
How it goes
  1. Show: we point out the decay on your X-ray or photo first.
  2. Treat: the tooth is numbed, the decay removed, and the composite laid in thin layers, each set with a blue light.
  3. We check your bite and polish the filling smooth.
How long
30 to 60 min
From
£120
Afterwards
Wait until the numbness wears off before eating hot food. The filling is fully hard when you leave.

Root canal treatment

Infected or inflamed nerve tissue removed from inside the tooth, the canals cleaned and sealed, so you keep the tooth.

Who it's for
For a tooth with deep decay, an abscess, or a lingering ache to hot and cold that keeps you awake.
How it goes
  1. Look: X-rays and tests tell us whether the tooth can be saved, and we say so plainly if it can't.
  2. Treat: numbed and isolated with a rubber dam, the canals are cleaned with fine files and rinses under magnification, then filled.
  3. Most back teeth then need a crown to protect them; it is on your written plan from the start.
How long
60 to 90 min, often over two visits
From
£450
Afterwards
Expect some tenderness for two or three days; ordinary painkillers help. Avoid chewing hard food on that side until the tooth is crowned.

Crowns and bridges

A cap that covers a weakened tooth, or a bridge that fills a gap from the teeth beside it.

Who it's for
For broken or heavily filled teeth, teeth after root canal treatment, and single missing teeth.
How it goes
  1. Visit one: the tooth is shaped, scanned, and a temporary crown fitted.
  2. The crown is made outside the mouth from the scan, in porcelain or zirconia matched to your shade.
  3. Visit two: we check the fit and bite, then cement it.
How long
Two visits, about two weeks apart
From
£650
Afterwards
Clean around it like a natural tooth, with floss or an interdental brush every day.

Implants

A titanium post placed in the jawbone that the bone bonds to, carrying a crown that replaces a missing tooth.

Who it's for
For one or more missing teeth, if the bone and gums are healthy enough. We check both before we promise anything.
How it goes
  1. Look: a 3D scan to measure the bone, and a gum check.
  2. Decide: a written plan with the full cost, including the crown; we also show you the other options (a bridge, a denture).
  3. Treat: the post is placed under local anaesthetic; it heals for about three months before the crown is fitted.
How long
Three to six months from start to finished tooth
From
£2,600
Afterwards
Soft food for a few days after placement. Implants need the same cleaning and check-ups as your own teeth.

Whitening

Custom trays and a peroxide gel you wear at home to lighten the colour of your teeth.

Who it's for
For adults with healthy teeth and gums. Old fillings and crowns do not change colour, so we check those first.
How it goes
  1. Look: we find out why the teeth are discoloured; whitening only helps some causes.
  2. Visit one: a scan for your trays. Visit two: we fit them and show you how much gel to use.
  3. You wear them for an hour or overnight, as we advise, for two to three weeks.
How long
Two short visits, then 2 to 3 weeks at home
From
£350
Afterwards
Teeth can be sensitive for a day or two; take a night off if they are. Results fade slowly; a top-up tube keeps them.

Clear aligners

A series of clear plastic trays that move teeth a little at a time.

Who it's for
Adults with mild to moderate crowding or gaps. They are not suited to children, or to every bite; we will tell you if braces would work better.
How it goes
  1. Look and show: a scan, photos and a preview of where your teeth could end up.
  2. Each aligner is worn about 22 hours a day for one to two weeks, then you move to the next.
  3. Retainers at the end keep the teeth where they now are.
How long
Around a year; a visit every 6 to 8 weeks
From
£2,400
Afterwards
Take the aligners out to eat, and brush before putting them back. Wear your retainer every night.

Children's check-ups

A short, unhurried check-up, with a parent in the room, and fluoride varnish when it helps.

Who it's for
From the first tooth or the first birthday. Free for children of parents on our plan.
How it goes
  1. A ride up and down in the chair, a look with the mirror, and a count of the teeth.
  2. Brushing tips for the parent: a fluoride toothpaste of at least 1,000 ppm lowers the risk of decay.
  3. Fluoride varnish painted on if needed; it takes a minute.
How long
20 min
From
£30
Afterwards
Nothing to eat or drink for 30 minutes after varnish.
