Tack & Halyard
What it is
Free-rein round-1 build, assigned archetype C (poster colour-block editorial). Subject invented to suit the backbone: Tack & Halyard, a (fictional) signal-flag loft in Leith that hand-sews the International Code of Signals — 26 letter flags, 10 numeral pennants (the 3 substitutes and the answering pennant complete the 40) — for ships, sailing schools, clubs and anyone who wants a vessel dressed overall. Goal: impress + sell (order a set / commission a dressing line). Audience: skippers, sail-training trusts, harbour festivals, collectors of good cloth. Traits: exact, salty, proud of craft, a little dry. Content: all copy written here; real-world facts in the copy are true (ICS meanings, Morse, 1857 Commercial Code, 1965 ICS adoption, Tōgō's Z at Tsushima 1905, Blue Peter, Q = free pratique, NC = distress). Stack: Vite + vanilla JS, GSAP/ScrollTrigger, Lenis. Multi-page (index, code, loft, hoists, order, 404).
This is the build's own brief, kept as it was written. Tack & Halyard is a demonstration build: it is real, it runs, and it is not a client job.
Measured palette
Six colours sampled from the build itself, in the order they were found. They are listed because a palette is a decision, and decisions should be visible.
