Settled Ink

Shawlands, Glasgow Tue–Fri 11:00–19:00 · Sat 10:00–18:00

(Since 2016 · 41 Skirving Street)

The studio

A ground-floor shop in a red sandstone tenement in Shawlands, with three tattoo stations, a piercing room with a door, and a private room for ribs and back pieces. A session is a sitting, and a parlour is a sitting room: hence the name.

  1. 01

    Single-use needles

Needles and cartridges are opened in front of you and go into the sharps bin after. A modern machine moves them 80 to 150 times a second, so nothing is ever reused.

  2. 02

    Everything wrapped

The machine, cord, bottles and armrest are sleeved in barrier film for each client and stripped after.

  3. 03

    Ink in single caps

Ink is poured into small single-use caps for your sitting only. What’s left goes in the bin, never back in the bottle.

  4. 04

    Autoclave at 121 °C

Reusable piercing tools are sterilised in pressurised steam at 121 °C, sealed in pouches and logged by date.

  5. 05

    Licensed and trained

Licensed by Glasgow City Council for skin piercing and tattooing; certificates are on the wall. Everyone holds first-aid and bloodborne-pathogens training.

  6. 06

    Surfaces between clients

Chairs, trays and counters are wiped with hospital-grade disinfectant after every sitting.

“Brought Tomasz a photo of my grandad’s shell collection and left with the murex. Cleanest room I’ve sat in.”
