LAMPBLACK
What it is
Free-rein brief ("a website about anything", round 1 of an unattended build → test → rate loop). Assigned family: archetype G, illustrated storybook world. Must be stunning, detail-led, every effect recreated from measured recipe values, and different from every earlier build (see `builds.md`). Subject (invented to suit the backbone): Lampblack is a fictional travelling shadow theatre that performs from the roof of a 57 ft narrowboat on the Kennet & Avon Canal. At dusk a linen screen is raised on the roof, a lamp is lit behind it and the audience sits on the towpath. Four plays in the repertory, each with its own coloured gel. Real-world facts used in copy are true (Lotte Reiniger's Prince Achmed, 1926; UNESCO lists for wayang puppetry (proclaimed 2003, inscribed 2008), Karagöz (2009) and Chinese shadow puppetry (2011); the canal towns and Caen Hill's 16-lock flight within a 29-lock run at Devizes; the optics of shadow size and penumbra). - Goal: impress + book (towpath seats are free, reservation asked). - Audience: families, canal walkers, theatre people, puppetry fans. - Traits: handmade, nocturnal, warm, exact about its craft, quietly funny. - Content: none supplied → all copy written here; all images drawn in code by one engine. - Pages: home, 4 play pages, tour & booking, 404. - Constraints: Vite + vanilla JS + GSAP/ScrollTrigger + Lenis; self-hosted fonts; software-rendered test browser.
This is the build's own brief, kept as it was written. LAMPBLACK is a demonstration build: it is real, it runs, and it is not a client job.
Measured palette
Six colours sampled from the build itself, in the order they were found. They are listed because a palette is a decision, and decisions should be visible.
