What it is
Iron oxide from a wet steak knife left on the cloth. Acids dissolve it; chlorine bleach oxidises the iron further and darkens it.

How we lift it
- Keep it away from chlorine bleach.
- A mild acid (oxalic, or lemon juice and salt) on the mark.
- Rinse thoroughly; acid left in linen weakens it.
