CAPSTAN
What it is
Free-rein brief, round 1 of an unattended build loop. Assigned family: archetype E (paper-craft / soft product). Subject (chosen with `subject_seeds.py`, researched in `RESEARCH.md`): the Mellotron, the 1963 Birmingham tape keyboard. Brand: CAPSTAN, a fictional two-person Digbeth workshop that services, re-tapes and restores Mellotrons and hires out a restored M400 for sessions. Goal: explain the machine to a curious visitor and get an owner to book a bench check. Audience: owners of old Mellotrons, studios, the curious. Content: no owner material; art drawn in code, real archive photos (Commons, credited) as reference. Stack: Vite + vanilla JS, GSAP, Lenis. Pages: Home · The machine · Models · Repairs & hire · 404. English copy.
This is the build's own brief, kept as it was written. CAPSTAN is a demonstration build: it is real, it runs, and it is not a client job.
Measured palette
Six colours sampled from the build itself, in the order they were found. They are listed because a palette is a decision, and decisions should be visible.
