The critic, round 1
ANDAMENTO turns the Ruinart fresco's gesture into something literal. The wall you drag is a real mosaic, and every image on the site comes from one tesserae engine that follows the andamento rows. The octopus, the peacock and the cantharus band read as genuine Ravenna work, and that makes the site original. The inner chapters are close to ruinart/10 and oceanx/09 in restraint: the cream plaster ground, the flared Solveig display face with Caveat notes, polaroid crops and a gold-tesserae wordmark footer. Four things keep it below Site of the Day level. None of the motion captures shows the signature interaction (the camera flight, the spotlight or the callout), so the home reads as a pan across a picture. The empty white rail discs on the gold look unfinished. The flat 'Cartone' vector state and the blank bench on first view weaken the inner pages. The site also ships a developer lab page, which is still public, throws a 404 and overflows on phones.
- The procedurally set mosaic wall. The tesserae follow real andamento rows around every figure, and the octopus, fish, peacocks and wave border read as crafted work, not noise. Keep the engine and the subject exactly as they are.
- The concept is consistent throughout: the brand name, the engine's maths and the navigation are all the same 'rows of tesserae' idea, and there are real tessera counts everywhere (89,797 on the wall, 4,206 in the sea).
- The chrome is faithful to Ruinart: a small centred wordmark card, a white hint card with a dashed-ring icon, a Caveat 'Click the peacock' note and the left visited rail. The art gets almost the whole frame.

How it was madefree-rein subject: a Ravenna mosaic workshop (smalti, gold set at angles, andamento); one tesserae engine (cartoon regions → per-region EDT → level-set rows → wedge-cut tesserae + filler, tilt-lit render) sets every picture: a 4200×2400 wall of 89,797 tesserae (star vault, iris band, gold ground with kantharos, two peacocks, vine scrolls, laurel wreath, tabula ansata, sea with dolphins/fish/octopus) dragged like the fresco with 2× flights; pointer = lamp that makes the gold glint; tessera-exact spotlight (figure stays in colour, rest to sepia, outline row lights in sequence); lapis potato-blob curtain with a gold tessera rim = loader/routes; chapter cards with converging words, live-lit figure crops, cartone → andamento → tessere compare set live in a worker, polaroids + scribble; pinned 5-stage process on a medallion set live; hands-on bench (draw a line, rows set along it, PNG); footer wordmark and 404 lacuna from the same engine; 13 recipes in full, 15 ref images; engine tuned 3 rounds in lab/wall.mjs + lab.html
