The critic, round 1
Peony & Willow carries over the trevor-noah grammar well: navy and charcoal chapters, a pink edge-to-edge wordmark, cream pills, the numbered footer pill with a sticker and a speech bubble, and rebus titles. The twist is real: a torn kraft shell stands in for the head, and a single engine draws the paper cross-sections, the long-exposure photos and the live sky. The shells and book pages are the most finished. It is held back by the home page. The hero shell is a flat, faceted bowl with thin canvas sparks, where trevor has rich 3D props bursting out of the tear. The finale and the bench sky read washed-out or empty. The chrome collides with text on the phone. Two overflow failures cost technical points. Solid 7: cohesive and charming, but not yet Site of the Day finish.
- A clear, fitting twist: the torn kraft shell as the hero's 'head', with the burst coming out of the tear, and the loader's shell handing off into the same hero shell (motion_intro frames 1–7). Nice counter steps 0→73→98→100 in pink.
- A procedural firework engine that makes believable long-exposure photo stickers with tree lines and harbour reflections. Each of the nine shells looks different (peony, crossette, ring, kamuro, pistil) and they make convincing image content without stock photos.
- The shells page: the 'Our shells' rebus with the kraft sphere as the O, then alternating navy and charcoal detail blocks joined by torn-paper edges. Each block pairs a photo sticker with an annotated cross-section, Kalam notes and a Space Mono spec table. This is the best page on the site.

How it was madefree-rein subject: a two-person Weald workshop rolling Japanese-style round firework shells by hand; one shell engine (3D star physics → long-exposure photographs with tree line/harbour reflection, live sky, pasted kraft sphere, equator cross-section with rolled layers + hull charge) draws every picture; hero = trevor torn cut-out as the kraft shell torn open with shells rising out of the tear (tap to fire); torn-paper peel = loader (trevor 0→23→73→98→100 while strips paste, then the loader shell FLIPs into the hero shell)/menu/route cover/404 dud; lxl squiggle → burning fuse, pinned deck toss of photo stickers, finale card → full bleed with a cue-sheet programme; pinned 6-state "one shell, by hand" scene ending in its own photograph; hands-on bench (lay stars by angle, paste, fire, keep the PNG); 9 recipes in full + 9 skimmed, 30 ref images; lab.html tuned 6 rounds
