03 — How a book gets fixed
- 01We open it flat and write down every fault — loose signatures, broken boards, missing pages.
- 02Old glue and thread come off by hand. Pages are cleaned, mended with Japanese tissue where torn.
- 03The book is resewn signature by signature on linen cords, then the spine is rebuilt.
- 04Cover goes back on — original boards if they survive, new cloth or leather if they don't.
